Prologue: Now Accepting Applications

It's been twelve long years since "The Year of the Comet" and Japan was forced to issue orders that would withdraw their troops from the surrounding regions of their Empire in order to help rebuild their devastated Homeland. Now, over a decade after the "Ring of Fire" incident later, the Land of the Rising Sun seeks to regain its former foothold in these lands long since abandoned by any serious forms of a military presence. Among the Corporations seeking to gain favor in their Emperor's eyes, Mitsuhama, Renraku, & Shiawase stand out as the three most prominent ones to do so. Having already slipped in favor in the past, Renraku Corporation has vowed to do so with fervency and once more reclaim their Number One position amongst the others. Enter our Players and Game.

House of the Rising Sun is a Shadowrun campaign set in the year 2073. Players assume the roles of a band of runners that is hired on under Renraku Retainer. Their goal, that of reestablishing and maintaining a proper foothold in their Employer''s formerly dominated territories outside Japan. Missions will include: Lots of Wetwork, Political Espionage, an occasional Milk Run or two, as well as Lots and Lots of Para-military Activity. After all, in an Imperial Empire filled with nothing but Blood-thirsty Corporate Cutthroats and Sneaky Underhanded Backstabbers, there can really only be one House that truly rises to the occasion and outshines the rest. Can you help Renraku become the House? Join the ranks of the House of the Rising Sun today!

Lyssa opened up a private channel, connecting the others, setting it up as thought-to-text only, she had no desire to risk if Marika had any hardware that might pick up subvocal speech.

-So, yeah, I'm not exactly a strong swimmer.
-Lyssa.

Then she started searching the matrix for that project, see what would be readily available.

"Ah, very good," says Leviathan. "Leviathan will take on Leviathan. I am an amphibious assault specialist. I believe I can help your client with this problem." Leviathan is sure there is more going on here than meets the eye and wonders who Marika is acting as a front for, but knows better than to ask. It might be an environmentalist group, but more likely a megacorp looking for an excuse to take out the competition.

"Hai," Point replied politely to the game. She's not a gambler herself but the game allows her to get to know others easily enough. The woman then listens to the assignment for the group.

"Yes, sounds good," Point nods. She already makes a list of what to look into later to prepare for the run. "How are we on insertion and extraction? Do you want this to look like a failure of the project itself or just utterly destroyed?" The indication of the explosives may explain it already but Point's intention is to be clear about the appearance of it anyway.

"What Point asks is valid," Gun agrees, "How do we get there, and more importantly, when the thing is blowing up, I don't intend to be standing on it." The German smiles ever-so-slightly. "Also, what's the security detail like?"

Sensing a general consensus to accept the mission, Marika goes on to explain that the group will be disguised as a South Korea Electric Safety Inspection Team, provided with falsified credentials, uniforms, and special equipment as needed. Marika then allays any concerns that the party will not be able to “act the part”.

With a tight smile she says:

“Not to worry; safety inspectors aren't Suits, after all; a Suit wouldn't be caught dead on a drill rig. We can clean you up a bit, and at least two of you possess the chipset capability to acquire the technical knowledge essential to the task, if I am not mistaken. The rest of you just behave as you are expected to: like asses. Attitude is ninety percent of the game; your uniforms will do the rest.”

She then explains that a set of ten CX-40 Demotherm molecube charges must be placed in specific locations within the rig's super- and substructure. She indicates these locations on a detailed schematic of the rig.
• Charges 1 & 2 must be placed at opposite ends of the platform superstructure.

• Charges 3 & 4 must be located within three meters of the rig's fusion reactor core.

• Charges 5 & 6 are to be placed at the perimeter of the rig's substructure, just below the waterline.

• Charge 9 is to be located in the control room service crawlway near to where the backup computer recorder is kept.

• Charge 10 should be placed in the operative's quarters so that it's handy. This is the master timer/detonator for all the other charges.
“The charges can be placed during the 24 hour period that you, as the Safety Inspectors, are scheduled to be at the base. When you are done, you merely set the detonator. It has a preprogrammed 2 hour timer. Then you depart on the helicopter you went in on. Very straightforward. Easy money."

When pressed about logistics and security composition, Marika states that the rig itself is manned by at least 30 crewmen; all of various races and genders as well as skills possessed to run the structure on a daily basis.

She further states the following:

“The rig manager, a very competent woman named Hyun Maeng, is a ‘hands-on' sort of person, so watch her. The Safety and Security Chief, Jin-Ho Yong, will be much more of a problem. I hear he hates company intrusions into his domain. I do not have to warn you about being careful with him."

Marika explains that the group will be transported to the Jandakot Airport in Perth, where they will be met by one of her men.

Marika concludes by saying:

“The man there will then provide all the equipment you will need, including a piloted helicopter to get you out to and back from the Leviathan. As I said, very straightforward and easy money. 3,000¥ upfront each. Another 7,000¥ each upon successful completion.”

She then waits for your response, sipping one last time from her teacup, then sitting it down upon the table.

Turning her focus to Lyssa, Marika responds:

"From what we can tell, the Leviathan possesses no Black ICE, merely a strong Alert system with standard; though difficultly annoying; Trace-and-Dump subroutines. External attempts of bypassing their Matrix Defenses seems to be the most well-defended against. Attempts inside the facility however; well, one can merely speculate that it might be a bit easier to circumvent such security protocols."

Likely much to Slim's chagrin, Gun says, "Too bad, all the sneaking, I was hoping to shoot someone." The strange man smiles and sips his tea, little finger out, as if as prim and proper as possible.

Sure enough, Slim's face blanches white with the mixture of fear and anxiety. Fatboy however, merely smirks mischievously. Even Assaiki seems to be amused by the German's comments. As for Marika, the elderly woman merely furrows her brow for a moment then smiles wickedly.

"There is always the chance," she quips still smiling, "That is if you screw things up. Sadly, it would have to be yourself I'm afraid. You see, our client really wishes this entire affair to be handled as professionally as possible and has entrusted me to make sure that it is done so."

Now staring at Gun with any signs of emotion removed from her face, she concludes:

"And I intend to please our client..."

Point almost grins but doesn't when the German speaks. The guy's a hammer not a scalpel. The whole run sounds interesting enough although the open appearence isn't to her liking. She'd rather do that unnoticed at all. But it's not a point to argue about anyway.

"And we will please our employer. No one will know that it wasn't outside activity that sank the Leviathan platform," the infiltrator says. "But there's going to be a total loss of the crew too."
