Book 2 - Act 2: Piracy on the Fever Sea

The shipping lanes of Golarion's seas and oceans are filled with fat merchant vessels laden with trade goods both mundane and exotic, as well as the pirates and freebooters who prey on them. Under the banner of their Hurricane King, these buccaneers sally forth from that archipelago of lawless pirate ports and anchorages known as the Shackles, plundering the shipping of countless countries and trade consortiums, then vanishing back into the maze of islands and reefs they call home. The nations of the Inner Sea would like nothing more than to end the pirate menace once and for all, but the eternal hurricane known as the Eye of Abendego has thus far shielded the Free Captains of the Shackles from the threat of retaliation.

In the Skull & Shackles Adventure Path, the PCs take on the role of pirates, but they must make a name for themselves in piracy, plunder, and disrepute to truly become infamous Free Captains of the Shackles.

"Aye! Just take the dive," Aya shouts, not eager to stay for long. However, she intentionally keeps her hat, puts it over the face of the dead Commander and does a quick check of the man's pockets before rushing just back the way they came and doesn't bother to climb down again but simply dives into the water below.

Gragol, still hurting from nearly dieing, just plops over the railing and into the water. He uses his newly acquired eye patch and his hands and feet become webbed.

Day 63: Into the Fire

Rod already took the Commander's Battle Axe +1
Aya spends a round looting pockets:

Potion Fox's Cunning, Chelish naval officer's gold embroidered sash, bicorne hat

Loot Sheet updated
Aya shouts to just jump over the side, through the window. She spends a moment grabbing a few things off the commander, but then she can hear more sailors and the door bursts open as two more marines appear in the room. She ducks under their blades racing toward the state room where people are leaping from the window out into the sea below.

Gragol flails out the window and lands with an awkward splash even as his hands and feet (and boots) form into flippers. He dives under the waves swimming with the skill of a fish.

*SPLASH*

*SPLORP*

*SPLOOSH*

One by one you leap from the ship into the harbor and start for the coast. As you leap over board there are shouts on the deck and marines rush to the railing and start shooting crossbows out into the harbor at you. A few whiz over your heads early, from the marines poking out of the windows. Maggie is forced to almost surface and few bolt splash down in the water near to her, but still far enough to not hit her. You swim for it, and eventually reach the shore along the west of the harbor.

You can now see however all the lights on the Dominator are turning on, and they are starting to load mean into the longboats to launch them into the harbor. You must get back to The Banshee, and quick!
Gragol: Eye Patch, Swim Speed 30

So, since the alarm was raises (almost wasn't!) you have to make your way under a hail of crossbow shots from the deck. There is a bunch of things at work here, if you can swim UNDERWATER, and getting 100 feet from the ship. So to save us some effort.

Toruk and Gragol with a Swim Speed can easily hold their breath long enough to escape with no attacks leveled at them.

DC 15, Success 1/2 Speed Per Round, Basically 7 Rounds of Success get's you clear with no attacks. Failed check by 5 or more means you surface and are shot at. Failed by 4 or less, you have to roll again.

You can Hold your Breath CONx2 Rounds

Aya (Swim 11): 19,17,28,27,16,22,18 = Successes!

Rod (Swim 12): (Magic allows always able to Take 10) = 22,22,22,22,22,22,22 = Successes!

Maggie (Swim 10): 29,11,24,26,15,12,24 = 2 Minor Fails, Re-Rolls: 25,29 = Successes!

You escape back to land without being hit

Grinning from ear to ear, Aya drags herself ashore, ready to continue to run to the Banshee. "Well, they certainly know something happened. Better get some wind in our sails and be off as quick as we can," the young kitsune says, having stashed just the two items in her belt and a soaked through hat in her hand. "C'mon, let's get aboard and be gone!"

Toruk weaves his way through the depths of the water leaving no trail for the rain of crossbow bolts to follow. Being able to see in the dark as well as breathe under water has its advantages. Surfacing near the Banshee, the Undine waits for the others to arrive before boarding.

Maggie pulls herself back onto shore with a smile on her face. For all that this was a race against time, she seems to have enjoyed it. She doesn't get a chance to really swim much anymore and despite the dire circumstances, the long swim was fun.

But time to dwell on that later. For now, it's a matter of getting to the ship and then getting the ship out of the river and back onto the open sea as quickly as possible.
I was going to cast Air Bubble on Maggie while Aya grabbed things, but it worked out anyway. I guess I should post quicker next time.

Gragol hauls himself onto the shore, clutching one of his more serious wounds. He hobbles as fast as he can across land toward the Banshee.

Before jumping, Rod has also unfastened his magical grappling hook and only then jumped down into the dark water. Coming out of the water at the shore, he helps the others and grins wickedly. "Ok, let us hurry, we need to get the ship moving..."

Gragol, still seriously wounded, manages to get to shore but is exhausted and his wounds reopening from the effort. Toruk is half way up the ship before the group lands, but you manage to reach the ship and make it up the rope ladders. Rod and Aya are not far behind and you are making your way onto the Banshee as your crew is giving order already to set sail down the river and out into the mouth of the bay.
