Book 2 - Act 2: Piracy on the Fever Sea

The shipping lanes of Golarion's seas and oceans are filled with fat merchant vessels laden with trade goods both mundane and exotic, as well as the pirates and freebooters who prey on them. Under the banner of their Hurricane King, these buccaneers sally forth from that archipelago of lawless pirate ports and anchorages known as the Shackles, plundering the shipping of countless countries and trade consortiums, then vanishing back into the maze of islands and reefs they call home. The nations of the Inner Sea would like nothing more than to end the pirate menace once and for all, but the eternal hurricane known as the Eye of Abendego has thus far shielded the Free Captains of the Shackles from the threat of retaliation.

In the Skull & Shackles Adventure Path, the PCs take on the role of pirates, but they must make a name for themselves in piracy, plunder, and disrepute to truly become infamous Free Captains of the Shackles.

Toruk keeps it to himself that he had been negotiating the climb aboard the Banshee for several minutes as the rest of the group is now at his feet. Over the railing and both feet on the deck, "Now that was some good old pirate fun! Let's sail out of here!"
Number Two: "You are number six."
Number Six: "I am not a number, I am a free man!"
Number Two: "Muh ha ha ha ha!"

"We'll want to sail as fast as we can," Maggie says. "Might be best to have me up in the tops keeping the sails trimmed just right while Gragol takes the wheel."

Rod gets up to the helm and aids whoever is steering the vessel. "Jolly good, that was." he grins. "Let us get out of here. Stay as far away from the other vessel as possible. I think they might fire on us as we pass."

"Aye, take care of the rigging then I am good behind the wheel as well!" Aya says the moment she's over the railing and she raises her voice to the rest of the crew as well, not trying to be quiet. Even if the sailors on the other ship were to hear them, they're already alarmed regardless. At the moment she intends to see that the Banshee is at full speed as quickly as possible. "And the rest of ya! Get crackin' and the wind in her sails. Anyone asleep or lackin' will have t' take a dip in the bay and 'xplain to the Chelish why it was so easy t' fool 'em!"

Night 63: Open Water!

Its full sails!

"Raise the anchor!"

"Hoist the main sail!"

"Man the oars!"

"To the Sea!"

Everyone sets to work getting your ship moving as fast as possible down the river. You have raised their alarm and while there might have been hopes before of sailing out of the river mouth under the cover of night and slipping by unnoticed until the last minute, that option has past. So you have to just hope to out race the Dominator's gun crews. Gun crews, that's the word of the day, for you saw cannons on their deck, not just ballista and catapults.

You come out of the river's mouth already nearly at full speed. With Aya and Rod at the wheel they hope to out maneuver the Dominator at least a little. You come out of there before the crew on the Dominator is ready, their gunners are working to try and get a beed on you from the man-o-war with their bow cannons and then finally they fire.

*KA-BOOM*

The blast of the cannon is deafening and rather intimidating. The first shot is a chain shot, balls on chains that slam into your sails and rigging ripping through them. The two cannons on their deck not only rip up your sails but they strike Donny, one of the sailors you picked up in Senghor. His legs are ripped clean off as he's slain in the blast.

You have oars in the water, rowing, and sailing as hard as you can, and you are lined up now with the Dominator, you can hear her crew shouting, and can see her Captain on the bow pointing with her cutlass and spyglas screaming orders at her men to reload and fire. You are nearly out of her range, nearly into open waters when the two cannons fire a second time each!

*KA-BOOM*

The blast, the smoke, the fire, the screaming! Her shots strike your hull this time punching holes into the side, and sending shrapnel through the hold slaying one of your oars men. One of those pirates you hired on from the Devil's Palour, but whose name you never bothered to learn. The Dominator can't move, and so as the smoke clears from the second volley you strike open water.

You've found your freedom as you hit the waves and turn west with the wind behind you and sail off into the night praying it takes them too long to repair their ship to be of further threat to you and The Banshee.

Watching the Banshee pull away from the Dominator. Gragol let's out a heartily laugh. "Ye 'ave been bested by the m'ghtiest crew on the open seas!" He breathes heavy but seems to be alive for now.

Toruk winces at every tear of their sails and breach of their hull as he braces himself a the ships railing. Even temporarily crippling the massive ship was almost not enough to make their escape. The Undine looks out to sea and utters a silent prayer to Besmara, then when all seems clear makes his way below to assess the repairs that will be necessary.

Bested, Maggie thinks. Hardly that. Tricked, perhaps, or cheated of a prize. But it'll be some time before we can best a ship like that. Still, on the outside she maintains a positive attitude. "Well done," she tells the people in the tops. But as she does, she goes to check on Donny, but knowing that the fellow has already got the number of his mess.

You've escaped, and when Gragol gives a cheer the rest of the ship gives one too. It was a victory in the eyes of the crew, and the fact that you weren't blown to smithereens by the Dominator is not lost on the crew. They are more than happy with the outcome, even if a few unlucky souls have met their end (at least it wasn't them!).

So as you sail out into the night sea you hear various crew praising the Captain and the officiers. Kroop and Sandara aren't as cheerful knowing it was a close one, but are still happy to have made it out to sea. Sandara comments to the Captain and First Mate, "A fine piece of work, knowing when to fight and when to flee and when to Eff their ship up like you did!"

Kroop joins Toruk on the tour of the hold, he's complaining that the blast messed the galley up but honestly you can't really tell if it did or not, the place is always a mess anyhow. Toruk's assessment isn't glowing. There is a good amount of damage to the hull and the rigging both, but you should be able to repair some of it on the move, and more once you make port. Old damage are starting to show.

Rosie Cusswell checks on Gragol and the little halfling, after a few choice curse words about the Dominator breaks out her fiddle and plays a little tune about your victory with the dwarf.

So you sail on and out to sea never to see the Dominator again.... or so you hope!
Alright! Any further RP about this go for it. I'll move us along in my next post

"Aye! 'T seems the piratin' men an' women aboard the Banshee can pull quite the trick on a Chelish man'o war!" Aya shouts happily as they get out of the range of the cannons. Of course with the devastation they had brought to the ship she ponders how to get some for this very vessel as soon as possible as well. So far they had no success but the captain makes it her personal goal to get them as soon as they find them. She leaves the wheel behind to someone else when she made sure the ship is on course again.

"Get t' fixin' her quick, no need to let her look as badly as she does now," the kitsune says with a slightly worried look at the sail. "And let those who fell in the pursuit of a pirate's life get their last rites in the name of the Pirate Queen."
