Book 2 - Act 4: The Treasure of Mancatcher Cove

The shipping lanes of Golarion's seas and oceans are filled with fat merchant vessels laden with trade goods both mundane and exotic, as well as the pirates and freebooters who prey on them. Under the banner of their Hurricane King, these buccaneers sally forth from that archipelago of lawless pirate ports and anchorages known as the Shackles, plundering the shipping of countless countries and trade consortiums, then vanishing back into the maze of islands and reefs they call home. The nations of the Inner Sea would like nothing more than to end the pirate menace once and for all, but the eternal hurricane known as the Eye of Abendego has thus far shielded the Free Captains of the Shackles from the threat of retaliation.

In the Skull & Shackles Adventure Path, the PCs take on the role of pirates, but they must make a name for themselves in piracy, plunder, and disrepute to truly become infamous Free Captains of the Shackles.

"Maybe there is something in it that should not get wet? Can we move the chests to a dry area?" Rod muses as he sees the wax seal.

"I suppose we can try," Seroneth responds, giving each chest an experimental tug.

Xie nods in agreement and moves to the side of one of the chests, "Let's move them and take a look inside."

The chest itself is heavy, but movable, perhaps 150lbs or so in weight. That you can move through the water easily enough. The stone box however appears to be a part of the chamber, its actually carved into the flooring, and there is no way to move it.

"Ok, lets move this wooden one a bit away, and open that stone one. Then we can get this one on dry land." Rod suggests. "I still think we should explore the place where I had this feeling."

"Very well. I didn't see any traps, but I haven't lived this long by being reckless. The rest of you should swim back a ways, maybe even into the throne room in case this doesn't go well," Seroneth suggests, though she suspects the greed for whatever may lie inside may keep her fellow pirates close by.

The chest itself is swum up into the throne room and moves to the side. Thew crew remains out there, heads poked in the treasure chamber awaiting Seroneth's work on the stone box. Rod offers some comfort as his First Mate chips away the wax seal and pries the heavy stone lid off with her adventurer's tool.

As the lid comes off the poison gas cloud that was waiting inside escapes into the water. A blood red cloud issues forth from the box and fills the room almost instantly Seroneth is the only one caught in the poison and as she breaths (both air and water) her head starts to swim. She looks to the exit but even as she reaches it the poison in the water causes her pain in her throat and lungs, but not much. She coughs out some of it and is fine. The poison cloud dissipates in only a few moments, and the room is safe to enter once more.

Braving the chamber once more you swim down to find the stone box was empty, save for the trap!

Xie gives Seroneth a friendly pad in the back, relieved that his companion made it out of the poisoned chamber alright, "One down, hopefully our luck is better with the wooden chest."

Seroneth smiles weakly and coughs. "Somehow being right about the chest doesn't make me feel any better. Let's take it and leave. I've had enough of this place, and we have that locatha to see to safety."
