Slavers at the Puffy Pelican

Post by Vardaen » Tue Apr 29, 2014 5:55 pm

The door remains untrapped, it doesn't seem disturbed since Werz last used it. So he pushes the door open revealing the tavern room beyond. The Puffy Pelican hasn't seen use in at least a year, and had fallen into great disrepair. Between the salt air, the rains in Xen'drik, and the general beatings its taken from squatters and local wildlife (dire rats, snakes, spiders, etc) its in really rough shape.

Piled around the room are rotting tables, and the bar, leaving heaps of trash in the way all about the room. You can see the source of the lights, three dancing light orbs hover in the middle of the room magically illuminating the chamber. There are also three men here. Two very thug worthy men, with crossbows and morning stars stand behind tables and chairs. There is another man lurking the shadows. He is a thin man with a weak chin and a ratty, self-inflicted haircut. He wears once-fine noble's clothing (stolen from a laundry and worn daily for weeks) and carries a wickedly curved dagger (also stolen, but in much finer condition than his clothing). "Well well well.... look what we have here! A few Grey Tower dogs fallen right into my trap! If you come along quietly this doesn't have to hurt. Resist, and I'll make it a painful experience and in the end, you'll still end up the same. Which shall it be?"

Oloven slowly moved past Fletcher and Werz. He hoped that the men would re-think their actions, seeing his heavy plate mail. "We heard their were slavers working out of these parts. You wouldn't happen to be those slavers would you?" He asked in a clam tone.
Diplomacy check to possibly prevent any fighting. I am a cleric after all xD

The thin man laughs, "Lhazzarite Slavers perhaps? No we aren't slavers, but if you've followed rumors about them to us you aren't wrong. So many people gone missing it was easy to seed such lies among the population to take advantage of the chaos in the Harbor District. There are no Slavers, only us, sorry to disappoint, but don't worry we did plan on selling you if that's any comfort. The Black Wheel company should pay me a great deal of gold for capturing some of their rivals from the Grey Tower! Your little company hasn't just made friends, but enemies as well you know. Won't they be surprised when I show up on their door with your little group in tow. Ahahahah!"
We can parley through a few posts. Diplomacy should be more than 1 or 2 sentences so let's see where this go. Plus the villain needs time to monologue :)

Fletcher moves in past Werz and up onto the stage. "The Black Wheel Company! I imagine they might pay a fair ransom." The warforged surveys the room for strategic reasons, "No need to apologize for disappointing us. You may want to apologize to the Black Wheel Company for falling short on your claim as their will be no sale today."

Fletcher looks around at his allies and then back to the others, "Before we get started, does anyone want to tell us about the missing people in this area?"
Number Two: "You are number six."
Number Six: "I am not a number, I am a free man!"
Number Two: "Muh ha ha ha ha!"

"Unless more men are on the way, you seem to be both out numbered and out equipped." Oloven walks over to the end of the bar, unloosens the Heavy Mace on his belt and lays it on the bar. He then sits down in front of it casually. "I'm sure we can figure something out. It would be in your best interest." Oloven adds.

Slavers at the Puffy Pelican: Round 1

Post by Vardaen » Tue Apr 29, 2014 10:20 pm

The man laughs, "Who knows, you should ask the Stormreach Guard, they are supposed to take care of the people under their charge. It isn't slavers, I can tell you that! Since I made up all the lies about them! Ahahahaha...." His men look at one anther, they weren't expecting heavily armored men or Warforged, but they do as ordered, because success means a great wealth of gold for them.

The man looks at Oloven, "What are you doing?" He waves his hand, "This conversation tires me. Capture them!" The two men nods, "Aye boss."

That's about the best of it, and Oloven reacts first...
Oloven's Diplomacy: 13 Fail
Round 1 Oloven 17, Slavers 17, Helion 8, Werz 7, Fletcher 6

No Surprise
The map is super crowded. The tables and chairs can be moved over, but they are Difficult Terrain (double cost, no run, charge, etc) The Bar itself gives cover and has to be vaulted over, etc.

Oloven rounds the bar, mace in hand. "So be it" He grunts, swinging his Heavy Mace in hopes of connecting with the thug behind the bar.
Move Action: West x1, South x1
Standard Action: Attack with Heavy Mace against Thug #1
Free Action: Speak

Round 1 Oloven 17, Slavers 17, Helion 8, Werz 7, Fletcher 6
Oloven rounds the bar, a bit disappointed. He grabs his mace and slams it into the chest of the thug causing ribs to crack and air to race from the man's lungs.

Coughing the thug points his crossbow at Oloven and fires, but the cleric bats the weapon away almost able to crack the man's hands as he does, but he's just not fast enough.

The other thug fires off at Fletcher but the bolt strikes the wall behind the warforged missing.

Then the shady man steps up and points his hand forward, "Down you go!" A spray of color overwhelms the senses of Fletcher and Werz and both Warforged and Shifter are blinded for a few seconds, but worse than that they are staggered and stunned from the power of the colors that overloads their senses! They both drop what they are holding, luckily its not much.

Outside Helion and Shakti act...
Oloven: Move, Attack Thug #1 23 Hit for 9 Dmg
T1: Shoot Oloven [AoO: Oloven: 11 Miss ] 10 Miss
T2: Shoot Fletcher: 4 Miss
Plutarvich: Move, Color Spray [No need for AoO/CoD the bar provides cover]: Will Save: Flecther 10 FAIL, Werz 14 FAIL: Both Blinded for 1 Round, Both Stunned 5 Rounds

Stunned

A stunned creature drops everything held, can't take actions, takes a –2 penalty to AC, and loses its Dexterity bonus to AC (if any).

Attackers receive a +4 bonus on attack rolls to perform combat maneuvers against a stunned opponent.

Riding the raptor, Helion sees that going through that door would be troublesome. "Front door, Shakti! Lets go!" he says telepathically to his eidolon.
SHAKTI:
Move Action: South x5, West x2.
Standard Action: Attack the tavern door if it is closed with his two fangs.
HELION:
Standard Action: Attack the tavern door if it is closed with his lance.

If the door is open or does not impede Shakti's movement, they move one square north and attack Thug #2 instead.

Round 1 Oloven 17, Slavers 17, Helion 8, Werz 7, Fletcher 6

Round 2 Oloven 17, Slavers 17, Helion 8, Werz 7, Fletcher 6

Werz and Fletcher
Blind Through Round 2
Stunned Through Round 6
Helion looks inside, and decides its too crowded. He spurs Shakti to the south, the pair ride around and at the door Helion gives the order to break it down. The pair, in tandem strike the door with claw and lance and it breaks open inwards shattering under their attacks since its seen far better days.

Oloven before the slavers...
Shakti Move, Break Door
Hellion Break Door (Combined with Shakti): 14 vs DC 14 Success

I had you make a Break DC check instead of dmg, its far more effective.
