Book 1: Chapter 2 - New Recruits

Eberron is a world of pulp noir where swashbuckling and intrigue run rampant. The Last War is over, the war to end all wars, but many say the fighting has simply shifted from the battlefield to the shadows.

In the wake of a long and terrible war, a world struggles to find its destiny. Will it descend once more into brutal conflict and end in spectacular annihilation, or will the world emerge at last into a new era of peace and prosperity? One group of heroes hopes to make Eberron a better place. The Grey Company, formed by a collection of heroes recruits new members to their growing ranks -- you among them.

"Well done," Val replies. "And not much in the way of collateral damage. Imric will be happy about that." He smiles.

"Now, you've shown that you're capable. But are you the right sort for the Grey Company? Tell me, why do you want to join?"

Zeevan nods. "I try not to be Collateral Damage Man, when I can help it." He grins in return. "And as for your first question, you're the only one that can answer that. As for the second, the Grey Company has a good reputation of competency and discipline. This is a wild continent that needs order. Also, I've heard tales that my bloodline originated here. It would be interesting if during the exploration that was confirmed or not."

Val looks Zeevan over, his eyes narrowing for a moment. Then he makes a judgement call. Any hire like this was ultimately a judgement call. "Well, you seem competent and of good character," he says at last. "That's a requirement. What's more, I like you. That's not a requirement, though it certainly helps." He holds out his hand.

"You're hired, if you want the position," he says. "You'll be on probation for the first month. But after that, you'll be a full member. Imric can fill you in on the details about pay and such. But if you agree with all that, we can have you sign the charter right away." He pulls a small leather folder with a sheaf of papers bound inside. "This is a copy of the Grey Company charter. It sets forth our rules and regulations. You'll probably want to read it before you sign the real thing. But I can tell you, there's nothing surprising in it. It mostly says that you have to follow your superiors, that we'll try and ransom you or rescue you if your captured, and how we'll pay for your funeral if you die on duty."

"But that's all details." Val smiles. "Welcome aboard!, Zeevan!"

The End

Post by Vardaen » Thu Apr 30, 2015 7:50 pm

The rest of the day passes with Zeevan dotting 'i's and crossing 't's. He's assigned his bunk and all the other various things that go with joining the company. The next day word comes that one of the adventuring companies has returned, and that Zeevan should seek them out in the Drunken Shifter around dinner time as they are busy returning from their mission.

Word also is given to Nirus that they might have some information for him which he sent them after, and of course Val is told they have things to report. Everyone has the chance to catch up with them at dinner in the Drunken Shifter.
Alright, they have returned. Everyone is welcome to join them for a bit of RP in the Drunken Shifter at dinner time on the following day.
