Prologue: Dustbowl

Using the new rules offered by Fantasy Flight Games, 'Heroes' Journey' will take players from the events transpiring just after Episode IV: A New Hope, through Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, and beyond! Expect familiar characters and situations from the movies, but don't let your expectations get the best of you: 'Heroes' Journey' may deviate from canon in new and exciting ways so that your character experiences all that the Star Wars Universe has to offer. Start the game with a character typical of those described in 'Edge of the Empire,' FFG's first SW rulebook, and evolve as new books are released. Finally, each character will start with access to the 'Force Sensitive' specialization and talent tree, though they are in no way limited to playing a character that focuses on the Force as part of their concept.Run by he GM Bo

And just as soon as things began, the charade is over. It seems our rag-tag band of adventurers are learning to work as a team. Teez is able to enter two or three individuals into the tournament (free of charge), and over the course of the next few hours all are gathered inside the cantina and the event is about to get underway.
*********

The smoke is thick in the air inside the cantina. Raucous music blares and the guffaws of hundreds of diverse species of alien life ring out loud. Eventually, a man in formalwear stands on a low stage, ushering a Bith band out of the way. "There you have it!" he says. "The Modal Nodes!!!" The Bith exit stage right.

"Ok - get ready to start tonight's tournament!!!" He begins to describe the rules...
I don't have them right in front of me. I'm guessing I've probably linked to them in posts past but don't have time right now to look! Let me know who is going to be 'entered' and I'll craft a short 'bracket' and then we'll get underway.

As the emcee explains the rules, Teez beckons to his new partners, bends his head down a bit and softly whispers to them. "Ok, remember that I got you a free rebuy Xan, so make sure you take advantage of it. Szara, couldn't do it for you before I had to disconnect, but hopefully one of you can take down the pot. Good luck." He doesn't touch either of them, and quickly finds a spot against the wall somewhere to stand and watch the activities.
If not obvious, let's get Xan and Szara in there. And with the advantage from the slicing, I figure Xan can get a boost die, as we discussed.

Jax has already saddled up to the bar and gotten himself a drink. He plans to stay close to the action, preferably at the bar, but if not he'll meander around the casino and hope nothing goes wrong.

Caralho Novar, who has been waiting patiently for the games to start, claps when the man declares the tournament is about start. He looks around passively, trying to pick out the likely tough players.

Xan smiles at his new Bothan friend saying, "Thank you, Teez. Once we get the winnings and our ship, you're welcome to stay aboard as long as you like. You're family now. We all have problems, but we take care of each other."

The smuggler looks towards Szara and Jax and laughs a bit. The ruse worked well, now they just need to hope their luck holds solid for the tournament.

It seems the mood has changed somewhat in the cantina now. The Modal Nodes have stopped playing and now the music being pumped into the bar is something much more sparse and cerebral.

soundtrack

In a few moments, Jax and Teez drift off, leaving Xan and Szara to look at one of the many flat screen monitors that drop down from the ceiling. Nearbye is a rather dapper man, Caralho Novar, who also gazes at the screens. There, they can see the rather large tournament bracket and their first matches.

Szara is up against a human named Buzz Gimbo.
Xan is matched against one Campal Hippo.
Novar is pitted against Dahn Sorren.

The MC makes an announcement. "Round 1! Find your assigned tables.. You have two minutes to get there!"
First round will be difficulty 1 (1 purple die). You can either make your own roll or ask me to roll it for you using the rules I posted a page or two ago. For clarity, I'll post again in the 'user guide' section of the game.

Novar walks over toward his table, eyeing his surroundings carefully. When he makes it there, he simply sits down, waiting for Dahn Sorren to arrive.
I have no idea how to do this

Xan takes a seat at his assigned Sabacc table. The scoundrel is happy to have been given a chance by the talented Bothan slicer and he figures that particular set of skills will come in handy in the future.

Looking over the others at the table, Xan antes up and calls as the hands go. After a moment, he figures out some of the other players' tells and bluffs and he continues to raise the wagers until some fold and he continues pushing until he lands squarely on +23.
First, you need to figure out your dice pool.

Take your Presence and Cool values. The bigger number is total number of dice (Ability, d8, green) you start with. Then the smaller number is how many of those dice that you upgrade to Proficiency (d12, yellow) dice.

So if you have 3/1, then that's 3 total dice then upgrade 1 = 2 Agility + 1 Proficiency dice. If 0 is your smaller number, then you don't upgrade anything.

Then Bo said 1 Difficulty die (d8, purple) for opposing roll. So you add that die into the set. In above example, you'd roll 2 Agility, 1 Proficiency, and 1 Difficulty dice together.

Dice Roller at http://game2.com/eote/

Since the Sabacc game has special dice rules, you also need to include 1 Force Dice (white, d6). This 'randomizes' the game and changes dice results.

Note, ignore the 3rd row when using dice roller for Sabacc. It doesn't know the Sabacc special rules for Force Dice results, so it does normal dice cancellations. Only look at the 2nd row with colored dice results, then use the Sabacc Force Dice math to convert results. if you need help, send me PM with your dice rolls.
Xan
PR 3, Cool 1 = 2 Agility/green, 1 Prof/yellow dice
1 Difficulty/purple per GM
1 Force die per Sabacc rules

Results:
2 Advantage (Prof, Agil)
1 Success (Agil)
1 Threat (Diff)
2 Light Sides (Force Die)

The Threat is changed to Advantage per Sabacc Force rolls (see OOC thread with what changes with Light/Dark side rolls)

Final Result: 1 Success, 3 Advantage

I'm unsure of what our table wager is, since Bo didn't mention that, so I'm unsure how much I won, or if we're simply doing 1 success means you win that round at the table. If we're doing one roll per table, then I assume our Advantages roll over to the next round? I'll convert my 3 Advantages to downgrade my next rounds difficulty by 1.

Xan has no problem at his table. Campal Hippo is forced to fold. "You got me," says Hippo. "Fair and square, eh?" He guffaws. "Awe.. I was never much good at this . Good luck to you! I'll be watching from the bar!" The man heads off.
Xan will be able to downgrade difficulty on next check!
Novar is at his table as well, watching the cards fall as they may and watching their icons shift and change...
I'll walk you through this one. It's against difficulty 1, so that's 1 purple dice. Your 'cool' check, Tet, is 4 green (ability) dice. That roll gives: 3 succ, 2 fail, 3 adv. Now the gambling rules has me roll a force die: 1 light side. That converts a failure to a success, netting you: 3 success, 3 advantage. You win this table and can downgrade difficulty at next table if you want.
After several minutes, it's clear that Novar has the upper hand. Dahn Sorren folks, leaving Novar to progress to the next round...

Szara....

I won?
Novar smiles, and shrugs his shoulders, "Sorry Dahn, just not your day I guess." He leans back with a smug look on his face, lacing his hands behind his head.
