Re: Ichi - Heaven's Tears
"Me?" Tohu asks, "I have tales of many things!" He slaps the table, "Once, I wrestled a bear, and pinned it to the ground." He laughs, flexing his arms while rolling up one of his sleeves to show his arm. Certainly, the man is strong, there's no question. But like a bear itself, he has a layer of fat as well. Tohu is barely older than Goto, so whatever real world experiences he has, they are likely few and far between.

Re: Ichi - Heaven's Tears
"Wrestling a bear, eh?" says Kayoko. "Oh, that sounds like a fine tale. Why don't you tell it to us? Maybe I'll even believe you when you're done." She pauses and, in a less sour voice, says, "Look here, no one's questioning you're strength or your spirit, but it's foolish to go making things up. A tall tale like wrestling a bear might seem harmless, but lies of all sorts create bad karma--and that will catch up with you eventually. What might seem like a harmless boast may get you pulled into a fight you don't want or something." Her voice doesn't sound actually kind, but there does seem to be some real concern in it.

Re: Ichi - Heaven's Tears
"You are too serious Kayoko, it is a festival, lighten up, even the Air Kami I hear play jokes and tricks on people for fun." Goto drinks up more sake, "Besides he's not a liar, I saw him do it. It was a baby bear cub, but it was a bear. Its not the truth of the matter, its the sincerity of which you tell it, right? that's what my courtly instructors always told me. No one wants to the truth anyhow."
He down more sake, he can't go cup for cup with Tohu but he knows how to make it look like he keep pace -- a boon to growing up with Tohu. "I would very much like to see any demonstration of the kami while on the road, of course not here, would hate to see the place burn down if you weren't able to control them."
Goto is fine with drinking and eating and talking till the end of the evening, but he knows they have an early day so he retires at a reasonable hour, but he's young and hale and hangovers are hardly troublesome to one his age.

Kayoko is obviously not impressed--it's not even clear that she believes this claim that Tohu wrestled a bear cub. Your courtly instructors were asses, she thinks to herself, but says nothing aloud.

Re: Ichi - Heaven's Tears
Food is eaten, sake is drank. Finally, the meeting draws to a close with everyone getting to know each other a little better. It is not all flowers, however, as there seems to be an obvious disconnect between the nun and the young samurai. Even still, this trip is not about personal relationships, but honoring the fortunes and Buddhas. The next morning, each of the travelers are summoned to the donjon again, but are to meet outside in the garden. It is assumed they will learn who the other traveling parties will be, and when they will leave.

She presents herself at the gate the next morning, her few possessions packed and ready to travel with her.

Re: Ichi - Heaven's Tears
Kawajiri Goto arrives at the donjon, dressed for travel and for war. He wears his armor, a fine set of light armor, only slightly more impressive than what an ashigaru would have, but not a full set of samurai armor either. It gives him some protection while allowing him to stay agile and mobile. He wears his diasho proudly and has a quiver and yumi slung down his side, the bow unstrung and securely fashioned to the quiver. A traveling pack is over his back, stuffed with traveling gear, cooking pots, rope, whetstone and other such items. He wears a wide brimmed jingasa today to shade the sun off his face and eyes, and has on a heavy under kimono under his armor against the cold of the road ahead.
He shows no signs of being hungover (not outwardly at least) and stands at the ready, waiting for orders, the fun of last night's festival sake house gone while in the donjon and awaiting final departure orders.

Re: Ichi - Heaven's Tears
The only change in Kusa's appearance is the addition of a thick haori around his shoulders, and a traveling pack strapped to his back. The bo staff in one hand will stabilize his stride on the road, and the wide straw hat will protect him from the son. Besides the bold tattoos on his chest and arms, he might as well be any of a thousand peasants on the road. He awaits their final sendoff in the garden, kneeling next to a large rock and meditating.

Re: Ichi - Heaven's Tears
June 30th, Rokugatsu Sanjū-Nichi, 3rd Year of the Reign of Emperor Ogimachi (1560)
Kyuden Kawajiri
Kurisawa, Ezochi Province
The four each show up ready. The karo is seated outside in the gardens, letting the pleasant day of summer feed his skin from the heavens above. There are twelve others that also make their way there. The karo finally looks up, standing and moving over to the large group. "This is the northern traveling group," he says. "You shall visit the shrines of Jizo, Fudo Myoo, Raijin, and Fujin."
The four going to Jizo are the oldest. One of the local monks, named Sohu, an older samurai named Ide Jizen, and two other nuns that Kayoko actually knows Cho and Emi.
Goto, Tohu, Kayoko, and Kusa are announced at the group for Fudo Myoo.
Raijin and Fujin are clearly the most dangerous, and Goto can attest to that from the simple fact of who is going to these shrines. To Raijin goes four samurai and one shugenja from the local temple.
They are the twins Kawajiri So and Sada, both experienced samurai, Kawajiri Kanaka, an expert archer, and Takeshi, a man that can bind the kami to his will.
Finally, the last group, heading all the way to the Shrine of Fujin. Lord Kawajiri's nephew, Akabe, a great swordsman will lead that group. He stands out among all except a man called the Falcon, Masa. He had been to Fujin before, ten years past, and knows the way. He is the man that gave Goto much of his formal training. The next is a mute swordsman named Chou. It was a strange of a name as his story. The man had come from the far west, shipwrecked many years ago. He chose to stay on Hokkaido and make his life. He was as skilled as any man in the martial arts. The last, of course, is Daisuke the Mage. The priest is second or third in skill of his brother shugenja in Ezo.
Akabe, only a few years younger than Lord Kawajiri's heir, Fuyuki, takes charge. "We leave today and will make camp at the shrine of Jizo before we continue. You have an hour to make your arrangements. Everyone is to meet at the northern gates then."

Re: Ichi - Heaven's Tears
Kayoko bows politely to the others as they are introduced, then looks them over with a critical eye. She says nothing, thinking the peace is best served by her keeping her mouth shut.
