The elf sat patiently watching the ignorant men wade much too far into the forest. Aelryn knew that they would never return to their homes if he did not help them, warn them of the danger, and send them back the way they came. He could already feel the trees moving, some wanting to reach out and grab what they saw as foreign. Those on the outskirts of Athel Loren were the most calm and docile. The further these men went, the more their lives were in danger. Leaning back against the trunk of the tree, Aelryn, twenty feet off the ground, had to decide what to do. Did he let them go to their own demise or did he bring them salvation? What were they doing here anyway? Bretonnians were smarter than this. They knew the danger of the forest.

These men had come too far to be trespassing into Athel Loren by mere idle fancy. There had to be a purpose for them being here. Perhaps they were Grail Knights, searching after their cursed Lady of the Lake, or perhaps they fancied themselves adventurers and meant to find some great Elven treasure.
The elf could wait no longer, he trained his bow on the leading man and advanced slowly and deliberately, breaking cover and calling out as he did so, "You there, you're not welcome here! What business do you have with Athel Loren?"
Aelryn's voice cuts through the woods as he calls down to the men. There were six of them that Aelryn could see, and they each look up. Even though the elf calls out, they might not be able to see him. "What!?!" one calls back, "We are lost. Where are you? Can you help us?"
"Kings have no friends, only subjects and enemies."
Aelryn continues his advance, bow still trained on the lead man. Perhaps they were just unlucky. Something doesn't stick right with him, but then humans could be terribly ignorant when they wanted to.
"If this is this case, I will lead you out to the ring of standing stones, but you mustn't cross over into Athel Loren again. You've no idea of the peril here."
The humans wait patiently, finally spotting Aelryn when he gets close enough. "There you are," the speaker says, "Could not see you, that is quite a trick." The men are wearing soft leather armor and an assortment of weapons. "Lead us out? Oh, sorry, we want to go further in." He looks expectantly at Aelryn, "We have gold to pay for a scout, if that would be acceptable."
"Kings have no friends, only subjects and enemies."
"Looking for someone," the man says, "Fled this way." He gives a look to the man next to him, "Was a man, not elf, we are not hunting your kind." He pauses, "There is coin to be made by helping us track him down. Good coin. He's a fugitive and dangerous."
"Kings have no friends, only subjects and enemies."
"Nearly all the vile sins," the man replies, "Rape, murder, theft." He frowns, "Now you know why our will is so strong to find him." Looking around, he shrugs, "But you are right, we won't survive this place without your help."
"Kings have no friends, only subjects and enemies."
Aelryn pauses, looking down for a moment as he considers his options. After a moment he looks back up at the man and gives a curt nod.
"Very well, I will take you and you alone that you may apprehend your criminal. I'll not be responsible for a full group of humans tromping through Athel Loren. The others need only turn and leave the way they came. Their exit shall be much easier than their arrival."
