Prelude: The Hidden Valley

It was in the beginning of the reign of Malvegil of Arthedain that evil came to Arnor. For at that time the realm of Angmar arose in the North beyond the Ettenmoors. Its lands lay on both sides of the Mountains, and there were gathered many evil men, and Orcs, and other fell creatures. The lord of that land was known as the Witch-king, but it was not known until later that he was indeed the chief of the Ringwraiths, who came north with the purpose of destroying the Dúnedain in Arnor, seeing hope in their disunion, while Gondor was strong.

Ruins of the North is a game set in the north of Eriador in the ruins of Arnor between the years of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Using the One Ring RPG system the game will explore the legacy of the Dunedain and the dangers returned to that part of Middle-earth.

Aravule fakes a smile, trying placate the Dunlending for the time being. "For certain." Afterward, the heir stands there, waiting for the Dunlendings to leave. "Hopefully we can make more deals in the future."

Aerondil kept quiet for the duration of the meeting. As the Dunlendings leave, he says

"Well, that went well. At least we have a roof over our heads. Who thought we would pay to stay in a prison?" he attempts a joke.

Telurin laughs at the Elf's wit. "Yes, and that it was destined to become the royal seat of Cardolan?"

Meeting with the Dunlendings

Someone had suggested a tour of the building, and Fearghas gives Bradan leave to do that.

"You may have the buildings soon, let my men clear out first. Then it is yours, once I have the weapons." He pushes to have the weapons brought to him now, as he commands his men to clear out of the prison, and to hurry up about it.

Halleth says, "Well, when we have more time, we can make it more fit to be the seat of a king. And if we are successful here, we may find a better seat. But first thing's first--we need to figure out how to proceed. But that should probably wait until we have our new home and are away from ears that have not yet decided to ally from us." He gestures towards the Dunlendings.

"For now, security, I will worry about trumpets and banners of Cardolan much later." Aravule smiles, making a jest. It was actually fortunate that the Dunlendings only took the weapons, they had the rest of the supplies to barter for other things. Aravule explores their new base of operations, interested to see if any of the cells were still functional, that would be useful to keep the dwarfs for the time being.

"After we have gotten a good hold of our new holdings Aravule, and brought our supplies in, we should try to engage in some intrigue. We need to learn more about the situation here, and if indeed there are many who oppose their overlord, but are afraid to do so openly."

"Should some of us go asking around town about the bug guy on the island? That would be sure to draw his attention.", Hartley asks.

"Well, the question is do we want to draw his attention right away?" says Halleth. "It may be better to first find some allies. It might be tricky to do that without drawing unwanted attention, but we should try." He considers a moment, "We should use the trade goods--roam the city trying to sell them, see what we can learn about its people that way. We can sound things out without ever needing to mention the Master or the King of Cardolan. Once we know more about the factions here and what their grievances might be, then we can decide on our next steps."
