The L5R to LotR LCG Project

Hey all, so I'm a huge fan of the FFG Co-Op Living Card Game for LotR:

https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/p ... card-game/

I've now made three custom quests for this game and some player cards based on the War of the Ring RPG campaign that I run here. Its been great. I recently had an interesting idea, to convert the Legend of the Five Rings setting into the LotR LCG format. The cards, the setting, the art, even the various quests and timeline events are already made by AEG and have been out there for several decades now.

I thought it could be great fun to make a base set, samurai heroes, katana attachments and the like, and play L5R Co-Op using the LotR LCG format. Seige the Scorpion Clan as they stage their coup, hunt down Kolat, battle Shadowland Oni on the Wall!

Anyhow, I started the long process of simply getting the templates for the cards set up. Right now I just have the hero card templates and did a few mock ups of heroes people might know from the campaign Crimson Empire here.

Shimazu is looking good!

If you send me the templates I'd throw a few cards together for you.

Finished up the Ally Template, will work on the templates, and I have ideas for renaming some things. To start with sort of informally here are some of the brainstorming ideas I have.

Base Set: Imperial Edition

Spheres are replaced with Rings
Spirit - Air
Lore - Earth
Tactics - Fire
Leadership - Water
Neutral - Void - This one is like Neutral, it can be paid for with any other ring resource.

Resources -> Koku
Willpower --> Honor
Threat --> Seduction/Corruption/Dishonor (still trying to come up with a good term)
Ranged --> Kyujutsu
Sentinel --> Yojimbo
Shadow --> Focus (Shadow Effect --> Focus Effect)

Lots of keyword options, too many to worry about: Samurai, Shugenja, Monk, Clan Affiliation, Tactician, Duelist, Ninja, Scout, Kensai, Tattooed, Shadowlands, Etc...

Well I finished up the Ally, Attachment and Event templates. Those are the basic cards for a player deck. Side Quests, Treasures, Boons, remain, but I don't even have a side quest template for LotR yet. Those can wait I think and sort of are more Encounter Cards/Campaign Cards anyhow.

We need replacements for Treachery and Shadow cards as well out of the encounter deck.

Can you post your templates here?

Yeah. Here is my first draft for the player card templates. These are Photoshop files.

I'll work on the encounter card ones, Locations, Enemies, Treacheries, later.

A great resource to make the cards is going to be AEG's Oracle for the L5R game itself. Found here:
http://imperialassembly.com/oracle/

My hope is to start with Imperial Edition cards for a base set, perhaps using Emerald Edition. Then the various sets, in story order can be added in. Staying with my preferred timeline of Scorpion Clan Coup, Clan Wars, gives us plenty of material to work with.

Okay I did up Enemy, Location and Treachery and they are loading into the folder now.

They weren't so hard since they don't have Rings to deal with.

That leaves:

Objectives, Quests, Treasure, Boon - Attachment, Ally, Event, Burden, Side Quests, Alt Hero Format

Did a few more templates

Objectives - Attachment & Ally, Quests, Treasure, Boon - Attachment

That leaves:
Boon - Ally, Event
Burdens
Side Quests
Alt Hero Format

I don't have templates for these for LotR even, so I'm going to hunt for them, hope to find them, then convert them.

Updated all the card to have Focus Value icon. Along with the symbol image.
F5 if it doesn't update for you.
