Adam, the Gun Mage class is a bit underpowered. If you want, you can build a Magus instead and I'll allow you use this class' features with firearms.
Guys, we'll use the commonplace guns rule that can be found on the SRD. That means firearms are Martial weapons and have a 75% discount. Ammo too.
Hi guys. I'm the player of the previously mentioned ranger.
I'm proud to introduce you to Syveris Black-Arrow, a Nyss refugee that had to flee from her home in the North all the way to Cygnar. Those of you familiar with the setting will know why.
Appearance: Syveris is a short - for a Nyss - and fit woman, carrying herself with the obvious stance of a trained warrior. As many of her people, her complexion is light, although living in Cygnar has tanned her skin a bit, and her hair is jet black, straight and worn in a braid. She has several tatoos and some battle scars, most notably one on her right cheek, and she misses part of her right ear. Her eyes are a piercing, icy blue.
She wears light armor and carries the sleek two-handed Claymore that is her people's traditional blade.
As usual for Nyss women, she always wears gloves around other people.
Personality: Syveris used to be a cheerful person, but the events of her life scarred her. Nowadays, she's reserved and slow to trust. Her past, however, also taught her the value of life, making her into an extremely loyal person, that would go to great lengths for the people she loves.
Syveris has a deep grudge against the Khadoran Empire and, as all Nyss, against the dragon Ethrunbal and his followers.
Nevertheless, Syveris' tribe taught her to be proud and not let life beat her. As long as she's alive, she's going to fight with all she has, with a smile on her lips.
History: Syveris was born in a sizable Nyss tribe - or "shard" - in the North, and for most of her youth her life was uneventful. The last of three childen, she grew up to learn the art of the hunt and that of the blade, and would have become a Legionnaire, tasked with protecting the tribe from outside threats.
Then the dragonspawns came. Leb by corrupted ogrun and nyss, these horrible monsters assailed the shard, killing everyone who wouldn't bow to their monstrous draconic master.
Syveris managed to escape through sheer luck, her family slaughtered before her eyes; she joined the few survivors in their journey south, where they would look for shelter among the humans of the Khadoran Empire.
Even there, though, Syveris' respite was brief. When the Khadorans found out that the Nyss where secretly sheltering their god Nyssor, they turned on the elves. It was a short, bloody battle. Once again, Syvers managed to escape, but she was severely injured.
In the night, Syveris managed to slip on a train and reach the Khadoran/Cygnaran border, finally leaving the Empire. Ever since, she has lived as a sellsword in Corvis, stewing on her past and looking for a way to avenge her people.
Recently, she escorted a caravan out of Corvis and is preparing to escort it back.

DM, you still didn't tell me if my character is literate. Also, do the 75% discount apply to the firearms from the IK sourcebooks too?
Estralita, are you OK with our character already knowing each other? Perhaps, they can have been working together for some time.
Souffle girl: sure, if your elf is okay with spending lots of time with a Ogrun Dwarf paladin of the Great Fathers who can go on about them a lot. How do you think they met?
