Ashes of the Forgotten: Remnants of a Life

Looking unruffled by the obvious sarcasm, Aetern quietly looks at Henry for a couple of seconds before answering, "The target is a piece of technology the likes which we have never seen before," Aetern eyes come to life with a spark of wonder that can only be called "child like", Aetern shifts on his seat before continuing on, "You are looking for a piece of pre Prothean technology, it should be about the size of a small varren." The spark on Aetern eyes return as he continues on. "We are not 100% sure of what this piece does yet, however we have found analogs for this within our collective technologies."

Aetern looks around for prying ears before continuing on. "Here is the difficult part, the people that have this piece of technology, are members of the STG, active members, they are not going to easily handover the information to anyone, so far i have only been able to gather that the research is classified above top secret, and that everyone involved in the project is for all extends and purposes a ghost, for lack of a better word." Aetern's eyes dart quickly to the door as some official looking Salarians enter the bar and take a seat on the bar, Aetern lets out a deep sigh and continues on, "I don't need to tell you that the utmost discretion is required of you on this mission, we cannot afford to ruffle any feathers until it is completely necessary to do so. Does that answer your questions?"

Taking a seat opposite to the Salarian, Henry doesn't even bother glancing around. For one, if someone was listening to them they'd already caught the juicy bits and might as well arrest them; and if none was listening to them looking around like a frightened Asari was a surefire way to look guilty and really make someone listen to them. Confidence was as much an advantage in this line of business as the ability to fire a gun the right way.

"So you need a pro to look for pro-prothean technology guarded by professionals." Smirking at the word play, Henry continues,"A piece of technology you admittedly know very little about."

"So what gives... what makes you think this thing is even worth getting?" The question is rather blunt,"Just because there was a society before the protheans doesn't mean it's more advanced, indeed... much of what we know might well point to the opposite."

The Salarian fixes his gaze on the irreverent human for a couple seconds before continuing on. "I never said that we don't know what it is, i said we aren't 100% sure, now we are talking about a piece of technology so advance that all of the galaxy's brightest minds put together have not been able to come up with an answer as to how to create this. If we are correct we are looking at a unknown mass relay that is connected to a system outside of our galaxy, i don't think i have to explain to you why this would be so important, to many people." The Salarian stands up and stretches his legs for a moment, "There is a room under your name here, go up and wait to be contacted with further information, we are working on a way to get you closer to the information, it could happen at anytime, be ready." As the Salarian walks away he turns his head and says over his shoulder. "Henry, you should really stop asking so many questions, how is it that you humans say? Curiosity killed the cat?"

Rolling his eyes, Henry nods to the Salarian. What did he have to lose except his life? Intellectual curiosity was one of the few joys in his husk of a life... the other being making a mockery of anything and everything other sentients might love or enjoy.

"I'll keep that in mind when we finally discover a race of sentient cat peoples." He quips, winking at the xeno and ordering another drink, roving the other patrons with a studious gaze, wondering if there might be some other forms of enjoyment he might find here before turning in for the night.

The Salarian leaves and the rest of the patrons seem to purposely ignore the human in the crowd, everywhere Henry looks he sees elitist of every race, as expected by the kind of establishment that he finds himself in. He continues to drink for a bit longer before walking to the reception desk and asking for his key. He receives it and heads up to the room. He opens the door and enters, the room is pretty standard fare, a bed a table and a bathroom, along with small amenities such as an overpriced minibar a holocom and a television set. Henry freshens up a bit before hitting the hay.

Sometime over night an envelope is slid under the room's door.

Getting up from the bunk, Henry unholsters his pistol and carefully keeping to the wall and away from the frontage of the door inches to it and removes the envelope. He does not open the door and see who's on the other side. That wasn't how these things were done.

After making sure he won't get shot at, he holsters the pistol and opens the envelope to see its content.

Henry gingerly opens the envelope left under his door, inside he finds a military ID with his picture on it and the name Corporal Henry Matthews, besides the ID is a fake passport with the same nae and picture, a picture of a Salaria, Henry looks at the picture he flips it and finds some text scribbled on the back, it reads "This will be your contact inside of STG, his name is Ulrask, he has granted you access to STG under the guise of a joint anti piracy task force, once inside look for the records room and find any and all information that you can gather about the piece that we are after.

Flipping the envelope a cred chip falls to the floor, Henry collects it and plugs it to his terminal, the balance on the chip is of 10,000.00, under the balance there is a memo note attached to it. "The memo reads as agreed, use this for any related expense that you might need."

Flipping through the items provided, Henry considers for a moment transferring the balance on the chip to his own account for 'better use', but thinks better of it. It was better that it was on an untracable chip not related to his own person after all.

Looking through the military pass, uniform and other attached items, Henry grimaces. He was conflicted, and even as he began to pull on the coveralls he felt a mixture of joy, elation and disgust. He'd longed to be a marine all his life, but the dishonorable discharge had ruined the institution for him, and this reminder of what he'd had and lost was not helping at all.

Packing up his stuff, Henry goes to sleep for the night, and when he wakes up picks up his duffle bag and heads out towards the reindevouz, looking for any storage lockers near to the location.

Ashes of the Forgotten: Remnants of a Life

Henry steps out of the fancy hotel to the tropical heat of the Salarian capital, the weather is overcast and the humidity is unbearable, he makes his way to a crowded tram station where he rents a locker in which he drops off the duffle bag. The station is packed to the brim with people of all races everyone purposely striding on their way to wherever. Henry's train arrives after a couple of minutes, he boards it and stands by a wall, his back to it. The ride towards the city's center is a fairly short and uneventful one, for a moment Henry noticed someone looking in his direction but it turned out to be they were looking to someone behind him.

The STG headquarters are an un assuming group of buildings standing inside of what looks like a quiet plaza in the center of the city, the decorative area is a large circular floor with colorful tiles making patterns on the floor and it is surrounded by green vegetation guards can be seen around the area all well armed, a closer inspection of the civilians in the area reveals many undercover operatives loitering around the place waiting for something to happen. Henry makes his way inside the main building and walks up to the receptionist, he is greeted by a female Salarian that immediately asks for his identification by simply stretching her arm and open hand. "Hello sir, may i ask who you are here to see?"

Doing his best not to wipe the sweat from his face, Henry nods to the female Salarian as he is scanned.

"I'm here to see Uralsk. I was told he'd be expecting me for the joint anti-piracy task force."

Deciding to play the dumb, mute marine Henry stops with that. Soldiers on duty did tend to come off as off-puttingly stoppish, giving only simple, curt responses that answered the question and nothing more. Already in his mind he saw what he envisioned as the character for Corporal Henry Matthews: a by the book soldier who lacked imagination and drive to advance from his humble rank.
