Resource - Charters, Rumors and Quests

Post by Vardaen » Thu Jul 08, 2010 11:56 pm

Image The Greenbelt is filled with adventure if you know where to go or who to talk to, and even if you don't the dangers don't simply go away. Collected here are the various charters the group might have gained over the course of their travels, quests both completed, and unfinished, or even unaccepted. Rumors and other tid bits of information also can be found in this thread. Each post will have its own set of items, some larger than others. We start with your opening charter as the game begins.
The Charter from Lord Mayor Ioseph Sellemius

Be it so known that the bearer of this charter has been charged by the Swordlords of Restov, acting upon the greater good and authority vested within them by the office of the Regent of the Dragonscale Throne, has granted the right of exploration and travel within the wilderness region known as the Greenbelt. Exploration should be limited to an area no further than thirty-six miles east and west and sixty miles south of Oleg's Trading Post. The carrier of this charter should also strive against banditry and other unlawful behavior to be encountered. The punishment for unrepentant banditry remains, as always, execution by sword or rope. So witnessed on this 24th day of Gozran, under watchful eye of the Lordship of Restov and authority granted by Lord Noleski Surtova, current Regent of the Dragonscale Throne.

The New Charter
Be it so known that the bearers of this charter, having delivered the northern reaches of the Greenbelt from the scourge of banditry, having provided detailed maps of the lay of the land, and having done no small amount of work in the exploration of said land and the culling of hostile monsters and indigenous hazards, are hereby granted the right to rule. The nature and laws of rule are theirs to define, and the wellbeing of this new nation is theirs to protect. In accordance for providing a stable nation to the south of central Rostland, let there be a generous stipend of funds, support, and advice provided to this fledgling nation as a token of Restov and Brevoy's goodwill, such that future relations between kingdoms might be mutually beneficial. So witnessed under the watchful eye of the Lordship of Restov and by the authority granted by Lord Noleski Surtova, current Regent of the Dragonscale Throne on this the 14th day the month of Erastus.

Stolen Land Explorers

Your group is but one of four groups chartered by the swordlords to explore and settle the Stolen Land. Here's what you know about the four regions in the Stolen Lands and who Brevoy sent to explore them. If you wish to learn more, your characters will need to ask around once the campaign begins. Most of this information was gained from Jamroar on your trip from Rostov to Oleg's Trading Post.

The Greenbelt: Dominated by the woodland known as the Narlmarches and the rolling hills of the Kamelands, this region is the one your group has been chartered to explore. Bandits are particularly rife in this area, and the rumors that they've organized under the banner of a bandit warlord who calls himself the Stag Lord are particularly troubling. You are to explore as much of the northern half of the Greenbelt as you can and, if possible, to find out more about this 'œStag Lord' and remove the bandit threat from the region. Other rumored problems in the region include numerous dangerous monsters and wildlife.

Glenebon Uplands: The swordlords sent a relatively experienced band of adventurers into the westernmost reach of the Stolen Lands'€"an area that is supposedly under the rule of the bandit kingdom of Pitax (although that River Kingdom has done very little to prove its claims over this area).

The Slough: The East Sellen River runs through the swamps known as Hooktongue Slough. Rumor holds that the swordlords sent actual Brevic government agents into this swampy area.

Nomen Heights: The easternmost reaches of the Stolen Lands contain a low mountain range and border the longruined realm of Iobaria. The swordlords sent a band of mercenaries into this region, rumors hold.

Quest: Temple of the Elk - Pending
Source: Jhod Kavken, at Oleg's Trading Post

Task: Jhod has asked the group to seek out a lost temple of Erastil somewhere to the south. He warns you that a large bear seems to be guarding the site, and that something isn't quite "right" about the bear. He's sent his apprentice Valen along with the group to assit in the task.

Reward: Jhod agrees to provide all of his spellcasting for free to the group for life (with the exception of expensive material components, which the groups must still supply.) (+400XP)

Quest: Davik's Revenge
Source: Encountered the undead guardian of Nettle's Crossing (Davik Nettles).

Task: The undead form of Davik appeared to the characters and has asked for vengeance against the Stag Lord. He has requested you throw the dead body of the Stag Lord into the Shrike River so he can have peace.

Reward: Ranseaur +1, (400 XP)

Quest: The Stag Lord
The PCs are asked to slay the Stag Lord and thus disrupt the organized bandit activity in the Greenbelt.

Source: Official charter from Restov—and states that the Stag Lord is wanted “dead or alive,” and that if he can be removed from power, you will be rewarded greatly.

Task: The Stag Lord is likely not interested in surrendering— you will will likely need to kill him in order to complete this quest.

Completion: Word of the Stag Lord's defeat must be sent to Restov—if his body is not available as proof, an agent of the swordlords shall arrive in the area shortly to confirm the banditry has been addressed.

Reward: 5,000 gp, plus a new charter to settle land and establish a colony in the Greenbelt—this charter and its ramifications are dealt with in Pathfinder Adventure Path volume #32!!!

Re: Resource - Charters, Rumors and Quests

Post by Vardaen » Thu May 10, 2012 12:59 am

During your time at Oleg's you picked up a few rumors. These rumors come from the various folks that have passed through, including Oleg and the locals you've come to know. (I probably should have posted some of these a while back, but I finally decided to compile them.) Many of these rumors you've put to rest already, or have inadvertently started yourself as you've told of your exploit.

Breeg Orlivanch, a foul-mannered trapper, has been missing for some time - they say he gave up trapping and joined the bandits!

Some of the bandits wear silver amulets that resemble a stag's skull - these bandits belong to a debased cult dedicated to a hideous animal demon.

There used to be a bridge crossing the Shrike River to the southeast, but bandits ruined it. They say the old bridge keeper Davik Nettles haunts the place now.

The bandits are getting braver and more organized, and there's whispers that they have a new leader—a man who dresses in animal's bones and calls himself the Stag Lord.

Bandits aren't the only things in the Kamelands that cause trouble - there's a tribe of kobolds and a tribe of mites living somewhere in the hills too. They aren't as much trouble as the bandits, but their presence certainly makes the idea of settling the land less attractive.

The primary trade route from the River Kingdoms to Brevoy is the East Sellen River, a major waterway that runs through a swampy region to the west called the Hooktongue Slough. The trade route's been closed for several months, though, due to an increased amount of violence from the boggard tribes that dwell there -- hopefully the frog folk keep to the swamp and don't turn their bulging eyes east toward the Narlmarches!

A group of evil monks and priests of a lesser-known goddess of hatred, extortion, and spite once dwelt on the northern shore of the Tuskwater to the south. I bet there are still cultists out there, and that they're behind the sudden rise in banditry!

Some people report that a unicorn lives in the Narlmarches, but sightings of the magnificent creature have fallen off in recent months. Perhaps the unicorn was driven out by the bandits?

Taldan colonists once made an attempt to settle in the Stolen Lands. They failed, but not for lack of resources. There's supposedly some old and abandoned mines somewhere in the Kamelands -- and some folks believe that there's gold in the hills!

An old friend of a friend had a brother who went missing in the Stolen Lands a while back. A traveling wizard. His spellbook's probably just rotting away in the underbrush or in some monser's lair. Shame, really!

Quests and Wanted Posters - Rivers Run Red Book 2

Here we collect the various wanted posters and side quests gathered during game play that remain open and unfinished for Book 2.
None
Quest: Wrath of the Scythe Tree
The PCs must defeat the scythe tree that's menacing Tiressia and Falchos.

Source: Tiressia the dryad at area A.

Task: Tiressia wants the PCs to slay the scythe tree—if possible, without causing excessive damage to the surrounding forest.

Completion: Once the scythe tree is slain, Tiressia learns of the event swiftly as the deed is whispered among the branches and roots of the Narlmarches. The tree is dead!

Reward: Tiressia gives the PCs all of her combat gear in reward. In addition, if they agreed to aid her without being magically compelled by her or her lover, she also promises to aid the PCs in guarding the Narlmarches and keep them updated about threats within its borders. This grants a +2 bonus to their nation's Stability.
Quest: Replacing Melianse's Trees

The PCs must replace five trees that have been cut down in the prime of their lives.

Source: Melianse the Nixie.

Task: Melianse doesn't care how the PCs replace the five trees, nor does she care what kind of trees they replace the felled ones with. She simply wants five trees back to help restore the “balance” of her home.

Completion: The group used 5 Feather Tokens.

Reward: She will give up the fallen trees once her's are replaced to the loggers. Also she gladly agrees to keep an eye out along the Greenbelt's rivers for any trouble or rumors of danger, increasing your national Stability by 2.

Quest: Treasure Map (to the Lonely Barrow)
The group has found an interesting treasure map from the Mad Hermit's belonging.

Source: Treasure map found in the Mad Hermit's belonging.

Task: The map is faded, with scrawls and text that needs to be deciphered on it, but clearly it points to a great treasure.

Completion: Find the Treasure!

Reward: Lonely Warrior's Weapon (Light Mace +2 Fey Bane)

Image

Loose End: Hermit's Locket
You collected a locket off the Mad Hermit that had a picture in it that reminded you of Bokken. Perhaps the old hermit near Leveton would know more about the locket. You gave it to Bokken and he mentioned it was his mother. He gave you 900gp worth of various potions.
Quest: Black Rattlecaps - Completed Calistril 29, Winter
The PCs are tasked with gathering a batch of black rattlecap mushrooms from a dangerous mud pit.

Source: The Old Beldame, area H4
Task: The Old Beldame uses the spore pods inside of black rattlecap mushrooms to brew a potent tea, but the mushrooms are very rare. She sends the PCs to the Mud Bowl (area I5) to gather as many of the mushrooms as they can for her.

Completion: The Old Beldame wants as many as the PCs can bring her.

Reward: The Old Beldame promises a payment of 100 gp for every black rattlecap the PCs can bring her.

Collected: The group had collected 16 mushrooms and turned them in for 1600gp and 400XP

Image
+2 Loyalty and 400 XP for the group awarded.

Image
400 XP for the group awarded

Image
400 XP for the group awarded

Quest: Troll Slaying
The PCs are tasked with defeating the trolls plaguing the southern Greenbelt.

Source: The swordlords of Restov (charter).

Task: In this charter, the swordlords make it clear that the news of a band of trolls based somewhere in the southern Greenbelt has reached Restov. They task the PCs with ridding the area of this menace.

Completion: The death of the troll leader Hargulka is enough to cause any remaining trolls to disperse and seek easier prey elsewhere (many of them, in this event, head west into Pitax)!

Reward: Once word of the PCs’ success reaches Restov, the swordlords reward them not only by sending the PCs personally 2,000 gp but also sending by additional support for their kingdom in the form of 10 BP.

I've tweaked it a bit, but the result is the same 2000GP added to Sheet, and 10 BP added to Kingdom, +400 XP for the group awarded.

Drake Found and head mounted. 400 XP for the group.

Image
Shambling Mound in Owlbear Cave. Killed and completed. 400 XP for the group.
Rumors: Rumors along the southern boarders are that trolls have been spotted. The rumors are quickly quenched so not to cause a panic but you don't know if there is any truth to them yet. - The Trolls where hunted down and slaughtered.

The Stag Lord has risen from the dead and now stalks the Greenbelt, gathering an army of ghostly bandits from an ancient crypt in the eastern Kamelands. -Lem from Tatzlford told you this.

The Swamp Witch is friendly enough if you call out to her before you enter her yard—those foolish enough to trespass end up working for her as scarecrows or worse!

A green dragon lives in the Narlmarches and eats anyone who crosses its path. - From your Scouts

A brutish hill giant has been seen wandering the southern Kamelands. Give him a wide berth (or a stiff drink), and he’ll leave you alone. - From your Scouts

A tribe of violent lizardfolk led by a lizard king who talks to the spirits of his dead ancestors dwells deep in the southern swamps. - From your Spys

The old tower on the island in Candlemere marks a place where the boundary between this world and another has rasped thin—and is now guarded by some sort of deadly monster. - From your Spys

You found a bunch of books and papers at the Waterhorse Inn.
What you can piece together is whatever this Vordakai is it must be ancient, very ancient and is tied some how to the Nomen Centaur of the region and this bracelet that Maestro Pendrod has sketched out and noted. The bracelet itself however is no where to be found. Packing up all the tomes and texts, you have a good collection, and Arenhal knows a black market dealer that might give up upwards of 900 gold for the set, then again each one is marked with the Kitharodian Academy in Brevoy, they may offer a reward for their safe return.
A massive Roc has been spotted in the mountains and its mad about its missing egg!

This small Inn has popped up near Nettle's Crossing in the NE area of the barony and they are looking for exotic food.

Garuk the Orc-Bane the Warden bears a cursed ring and can't be rid of it. He traveled to Varnhold months ago to try and have it removed.

A trickster spirit lives along the road to Tatzleford so beware!

You can't just kill trolls, they keep regenerating. The trolls are back and won't ever go away.

A farmer near the Gudrin River crossing said, "One of my cousin’s friends’ fathers was an assayer, and he says that there’s probably some pretty good grounds for mining south of Lake Silverstep."

There’s a valley to the south that the Nomen centaurs say is an old cyclops graveyard—rumor holds that an army of blood-drinking one-eyed ghosts guards the place!
The former mayor is stirring up trouble, his whole family died in the Owlbear attack. - He has been dealt with.

Svetlana Levelton is pregnant! She's going to retire from the High Council. - She retired. Its a girl!
